Holiday WOW! (Words of Wisdom)

The great Yogi Berra once said, “In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.”

When it comes to the holidays, the baseball Hall of Famer’s words ring true. In theory, the holidays are a joyful time to celebrate and relax in the company of family and friends. In practice, holiday expectations often create stress that leaves many people with the blues. Here are a few tips for surviving the holidays intact:

  • Exercise. Don’t let your exercise routine lapse because of holiday demands. You need the endorphins. If you don’t exercise regularly, it’s a good time to start.
  • Volunteer. Studies have found that people who volunteer are happier and healthier. You can help at church, a food pantry, or another organization this holiday season.
  • Set limits. As much as you might like to, you cannot do everything or be everywhere this holiday season. Prioritize your activities and say “no” when necessary (similar to what we tell you in our spending modules!).

This year, try to relax and enjoy your holidays. Come to think of it, that might be a good New Year’s resolution. We wish you the happiest of holiday seasons!
